Half the stores we audit lose customers on the checkout page, not the product page. The customer chose, added to cart, reached checkout… then didn't find a method they trust and closed the page. This is a practical guide to choosing the right payment mix for your store in Oman.
The rule: your customer, not the trend
There is no “best” gateway, only the one your audience uses. The young buyer on a phone at 10pm wants Apple Pay or buy-now-pay-later. The company buying wholesale wants a bank transfer and a tax invoice. A store serving both needs both.
Common options in the Omani market
- Cards through a local gateway such as Amwal Pay or PayTabs: the foundation, supporting local debit cards.
- Apple Pay: noticeably lifts mobile checkout because it reduces data entry to a fingerprint.
- Tamara (buy now, pay later): suited to baskets above OMR 30 and raises average order value.
- stc pay and wallets: important for the segment that prefers not to use a card online.
- Cash on delivery: still requested in some categories, but set an upper limit.
Three mistakes we see often
- Forcing the customer to create an account before paying.
- A checkout page in English only, or styled differently from the store, so the customer feels they've left for another site.
- Not showing payment and guarantee badges before checkout. Trust is built before the last step, not in it.
Every missing payment option is a share of customers quietly choosing another store.
How to choose your mix
Look at your store data: which device do they buy from? What's the average basket? Are your customers individuals or companies? With those three answers we rank the payment options by priority and connect them to your platform, whether Salla, Zid, Shopify or a custom store.
